Tourism and Events Queensland's Regional Development Program

Tourism and Events Queensland's Regional Development Program is an investment program designed to extend the flow of economic and social benefits of events to regional Queensland.

In collaboration with local councils and Regional Tourist Organisations (RTOs), the Program supports a diverse portfolio of events which help to attract a continuous stream of interstate and international visitors to Queensland while also raising the profile of the state nationally and overseas, encouraging future tourism and investment.

Events that receive funding through the EQRDP vary in size, theme and purpose and range from music, art and food festivals, to sporting events and regional and cultural celebrations. These events showcase regional Queensland, attract visitors and enhance their experience, and retain valuable tourism dollars within the region and state.

Events Queensland has created the most comprehensive portfolio of supported events of any state in Australia with over $21 million invested through the EQRDP across 976 events since 2001.

Funding Types

The Regional Development Program offers two funding options for regional events:

  1. Core Program (Core) – single-year event support
  2. Significant Regional Events Scheme (SRES) – single or multi-year support for significant events (up to three years).

First-time applicants must apply to the Core Program first in order to be considered for SRES support. Events that have acquitted at least one year of Core Program funding are entitled to apply for funding under the SRES.
